20-month ageing in French oak barrels.
IL·LIA comes from a vineyard of Red Grenache, Carignan and Cabernet Sauvignon. The property west-faced. The elevation is about 290-300 metres (950-985 ft) above the sea level. The Les Manyetes ravine begins in this estate, so the center of the vineyard is slightly wetter than the generally dry area typical of the hillside where the vineyard is located.
The 2021 vintage was marked by generous humidity in the first 8 months of the year. It all started with the episode of the cyclone called Filomena, which left 1.5 m / 5 ft of snow on our vineyards, the spring and summer were also quite humid (without excess). The summer was characterised by very constant cloudiness, which translated into mild temperatures, with cool mornings. The end of August and the beginning of September were marked by abundant rains, the ripening of the grapes was prolonged and very harmonious, crowned with a late harvest. Fortunately, the unprecedented humidity of 2021 left no traces of disease. The luck of the IL·LIA vineyard is its southwest-faced orientation (leveraging the evening light) and its location: height of more than 300 metres / 980 ft above sea level, on the second highest hill range of Gratallops (following the hill of the Hermitage of Consolació which has elevations of over 500 metres / 1,600 ft). This exposure subjects the vineyard to a constant current of wind, so essential on rainy days in summer.
